Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Niagara Falls
October 6-24
Don’t fret over the number of days on this trip. There is so much to see we have to spend some time while we are up in the northeast. There are several times we spend two nights in areas so you will have the opportunity to take some time off from the group if you wish. If the number of days is prohibitive, you could certainly fly a portion of the trip.
The first four days of our trip will be spent traveling to the east coast and getting to know each other! We will be staying in Texarkana (last chance for Mexican food), Nashville, Akron, Ohio and Hartford, Connecticut. We will slow down at this point, as we travel the remaining distance to the coast. We will head along the coastal drive, stopping for several sights along the way. Our route will take us along many beautiful vistas and picture stops! We will spend the night in Portland as we continue our drive up the coast to Bar Harbor. We have a lobster lunch at a little town along the way, which is a great experience for all. (Some of us will eat chicken!) Spending two nights in Bar Harbor, we will visit the Acadia National Park and have some free time to visit the harbor town. Our hotel will be on the bay with a great view of the activity in the harbor.
As we continue our travel further north we will stay near the Bay of Fundy prior to our arrival in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where we will spend two nights. We will drive out to Peggy’s Cove and the harbor town in the area. A guide will take us through Halifax, giving us information on the history of the city. Traveling by ferry to Prince Edward Island we will take a driving tour of the island. The island is rich farmland with rolling fields with a variety of crops. We will visit Anne of Green Gables prior to crossing back to the mainland. We spend the night in the historic downtown area of Fredricton, New Brunswick prior to heading back into the states. Heading south we will stay in Portland again as we begin our trip home.
Traveling through some backroads we will go through New Hampshire and Vermont before stopping in Albany for an overnight stay. As we travel through New York state we will detour over to the lakeshore drive along Lake Ontario. There are many orchards and plenty of farmland in the area, with an unlimited supply of water! Crossing back into Canada, we will stay two nights overlooking the falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We will take a voyage on the Maid of the Mist and visit Niagara on the Lake. The next morning we will head for home fast, spending nights in Terra Haute, Indiana and Tulsa, OK before our arrival back in Lubbock.
